Autumn Katie by Dygo Autumn Katie by Dygo
Katie Holmes

3B-2H Derwent Medium Drawing Pencils on Strathmore Medium Drawing Paper. Pentel Hi-Polymer Eraser. About 8-10 hours.

I really wanted to redo my earlier Katie Holmes, because it really didn't do justice to her. So here is Autumn Katie, with a warm scarf around her neck and a striped shirt. I really like it, except for glaring symmetry problems with her face. I noticed them toward the end and I spent almost half an hour trying to correct it, but alas, it may have been for the worse in some spots. Her lips/teeth are slightly off because I still have trouble with red/pink colors, and the shading on her shirt is a little too light in places. But overall... it may be one of my best. Scanned on the Epson for better quality, although the reflection on the hair lightened it and added the shadows in the background. Force-cropped too, so come see the original some time! It's cute :-D

Critiques welcomed, comments enjoyed.

That's talented, a very realistic looking drawing and I like the motion of the hair. My only advice would be that maybe you should add more darker shadings, otherwise the drawing will look too gray.

Thank you!! I agree that I need to develop a better range of contrasts, but part of the problem I think is with my scanner, since it tends to lighten reflective graphite. Of course, one of the biggest things I need to work on as a graphite artist is portraying color without color ;-)
